A recap of this week's Wisdom Wednesday with Zach and Meggs. Headline items: Snipe the Summer has already passed 113,000 battles, the rebuilt app is moving closer to community beta testing, and more algorithm and subscription updates are on the way.
Snipe the Summer
More than 113,000 Snipe battles have already happened since Snipe the Summer began on August 10. The 90-second format continues to get a lot of love from the community, and based on what the team is seeing so far, there is a good chance the format sticks around in some form after the event ends.
Snipe the Summer is the first major event from Favorited's expanded games team. With a dedicated group focused on events and game experiences, expect more formats, more testing, and more ways to play over time.
Reminder: post your best Snipe moments to social, tag Favorited, and use #snipethesummer. You can also try co-posting with Favorited Battles.
The app rebuild
The full Favorited mobile app rebuild has now been in the works for more than a year and a half, and it is one of the biggest foundational steps toward what comes next.
The goal is to move from building across the current app and the rebuild at the same time to one new foundation going forward. That will make it much easier for the team to ship and iterate on new features after the rebuild is in place.
The plan is to have the rebuilt app in place for Spooky Season on October 1.
Want to help test it? Email beta@favorited.com to apply. The team is especially looking for Android testers right now.
Algorithm updates and what helps creators grow
Creators should start getting more visibility into algorithm boosts soon. The goal is for people to begin seeing when they receive a boost starting early next week, with more triggers and adjustments coming over time based on data and feedback.
The core philosophy is staying the same: be social. Engaging with chat, bringing people into boxes, co-hosting, playing games, and battling are all examples of the kinds of real interaction the algorithm is designed to reward.
The clearest advice for creators looking to grow was simple: consistency matters.
You do not need to be live all day. A predictable schedule gives people a reason to come back, helps your audience know when to find you, and creates a recurring moment people can plan around. Pair that consistency with a clear reason for why you stream and authentic engagement with the people who show up.
September is all about subscriptions
More details are coming next week, but we shared an early look at the subscription-focused event planned for September:
- Renewals will be worth more points than new subscriptions.
- New subscriptions will still count toward the event.
- The subscriber-only gift will be part of the event.
More details on scoring, rewards, and the event itself are coming soon.
And FYI: the subs leaderboard is moving to a weekly format. The overall leaderboard will still be available to view as a reference.
The community is the point
At the beginning of the stream, Meggs asked everyone what they love most about Favorited. The answers kept coming back to the same things: community, connection, freedom, friends, and the people here.
That is also becoming a bigger part of how Favorited shows up outside the app. The community has been seeing more clips featuring Snipe battles, talent shows, music, games, and the everyday moments that make Favorited feel like Favorited, and there is much more of that content on the way.
A few more things on the way
- Finn from Trust & Safety joins Kelsey on Thoughtful Thursday at 3PM PT next week for a deeper Q&A.
- More moderator abilities are planned for the future, including the possibility of expanded permissions for lead moderators.
- Another community art competition is expected around the end of beta.
- More gift options for Stories are planned for the future.
- The item marketplace remains on the roadmap.
