What is clemency?
Clemency is a way to ask us to reconsider the length of a suspension when you know you broke our Community Guidelines and want to own it.
We know everyone has a bad moment now and then. Live streaming and chat moves fast, conversations get heated, and sometimes people say or do things they regret. Clemency gives people who take responsibility for a mistake a chance to have their suspension reviewed, while still keeping our community safe for everyone.
Clemency is not the same as appealing an enforcement
There are two different ways to ask us to look at an enforcement, and they're for different situations.
| Appeal | Clemency request | |
|---|---|---|
| Use it when | You believe the enforcement was a mistake and you didn't break the guidelines | You agree you broke the guidelines and want to ask for your suspension to be reconsidered |
| What we review | Whether the enforcement was correct | Your account history and whether the request meets our clemency criteria |
| How to ask | Tap the appeal button on the enforcement notification you received in the app | Email safety@favorited.com |
If you think we got it wrong, please use the in-app appeal button, not a clemency request. A clemency request starts from agreeing that a violation happened, so it isn't the right place to dispute one. If you're not sure the enforcement was correct, start with an appeal.
Who can request clemency
You can ask us to consider clemency when all of these are true:
- Your suspension is 3 days or longer. Warnings, feature blocks, and shorter suspensions aren't eligible.
- It's your first time with this type of violation. If you've been enforced on for the same kind of violation before, clemency isn't available for it.
- The violation isn't one of the serious categories listed below.
We also look at your account's overall enforcement history. An account with a mostly clean record is more likely to be considered than one with a pattern of different violations. Meeting the criteria makes you eligible to ask, but it doesn't guarantee your suspension will change.
Owning the violation
Clemency starts with accountability. As part of the process, we'll share which part of our Community Guidelines was violated and ask you to confirm that you:
- Acknowledge that you violated the guidelines
- Understand why that behavior isn't allowed on our platform
- Take responsibility for your actions and accept the consequences
- Understand that any future violations will be enforced under our standard policy
We ask for this because clemency is meant for people who recognize a mistake and want to do better. If you'd rather dispute the violation, that's completely okay, but please use the in-app appeal instead.
Violations that aren't eligible
Some violations cause serious harm to others or break the law, so they can't be reduced through clemency. These include:
- Any content or behavior that sexually exploits or endangers minors
- Sexual assault, sexual coercion, or threatening to share someone's intimate images
- Terrorism, violent extremism, mass violence, or other criminal activity
- Threats involving weapons
- Violent hate speech
- Sharing someone's sensitive personal information (doxxing)
- Fraud, scams, or impersonation
- Copyright violations (DMCA)
Permanent suspensions are generally not eligible for clemency.
How to request clemency
Email our Trust & Safety team at safety@favorited.com with the subject line Clemency Request – @yourhandle. In your email, include:
- Your username or handle
- The date of your enforcement, if you know it
- A short note saying you're requesting clemency and are willing to acknowledge the violation
What happens next
- Our team checks whether your enforcement is eligible.
- If it is, we'll email you the details of the violation and a short acknowledgement form.
- Once you've completed the form, we'll review your request and let you know the outcome by email.
Every request is reviewed by our Trust & Safety team, and submitting one doesn't guarantee a change. A request may be declined if it's incomplete, if the violation isn't acknowledged, or if your account history doesn't meet our criteria.
